Tonmya™ (TNX-102 SL)
On August 15, 2025, the U.S. FDA approved Tonmya™ (sublingual cyclobenzaprine) for fibromyalgia. This marks a landmark advancement in pharmacological treatment.
How It Works
Unlike traditional oral medications, Tonmya is a sublingual tablet taken at bedtime. It is designed to be absorbed rapidly through the lining of the mouth, bypassing the liver's first-pass metabolism. This reduces daytime grogginess while specifically targeting the sleep disturbances that drive pain sensitivity in fibromyalgia patients.
European and Dutch Context
In the Netherlands, this medication is currently being monitored through the Horizonscan Geneesmiddelen. It is classified under "Scientific updates" for fibromyalgia, indicating that clinical progress is being tracked for potential future availability on the Dutch market.
Clinical Results
The RELIEF and RESILIENT Phase 3 trials showed significant reduction in daily pain scores. Patients reported improved sleep quality and functional capacity over the 14-week study period.
Note: While approved by the FDA in the US, availability in the EU/Netherlands depends on EMA approval and local reimbursement decisions.
